Barossa

Barossa Experience - Serving up Culinary Culture

World Food Exchange delegates were immersed in the food and wine culture of the Barossa; with experiences including 'Blend your own' at the iconic Penfolds winery; an intimate “cooking with Barossa Food” session at Maggie Beer's Farm Shop and an inspection of the luxury and indulgence at The Louise.

Penfolds - Penfolds has been producing remarkable wines for more than 160 years and indisputably led the development of Australian fine wine in the modern era. The introduction of Penfolds Grange in 1951 forever changed the landscape of Australian fine wine. Located in the heart of the Barossa, at Penfolds Barossa Valley Winery and Cellar Door, delegates experienced the art of winemaking as they blended their own classic Barossa Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvedre.

Maggie Beer's Farm Shop - An iconic destination for all lovers of fine food. Visiting the Farmshop, delegates explored and tasted their way around the shop, making their way through to the Studio Kitchen where Maggie films her show 'The Cook and the Chef' to enjoy an exclusive verjuice cooking demonstration, tasting the amazing flavours of Barosa chook, seasonal vegetables, vinaigrettes and more, all having been cooked with verjuice.

The Louise - The Louise is an idyllic luxury vineyard retreat encompassing acclaimed on-site restaurant Appellation.  Jim and Helen Carreker, owners since January 2005 of the property known for many years as Peppers Hermitage or The Hermitage at Marananga, have spent more than ten years researching and ultimately selecting the Barossa Valley and the stunningly beautiful Marananga hilltop site for their Australian food and wine venture.  Delegates enjoyed this opprtunity to take a guided tour of this luxury property voted winner of Luxury Accommodation in the 2007 Australian Tourism Awards.
